Comfort Kitchen

This project is personal. When my husband and his partners set out to open a new restaurant, I couldn't help but be involved with all things branding.

And then the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States —- and the world — and the original opening date was put on hold. What happened next, was the challenge of creating a restaurant brand, creating momentum, and connecting with an audience before opening the doors. Social media played a huge part.

The logo and brand were designed by a fellow designer, Brendan McCabe. I took the brand and ran with it, from the website to email marketing and social media. Kwasi, my husband and chef, started cooking at home and I started photographing. I filmed, edited, and uploaded cooking demos to YouTube. We collaborated with other partners in the industry for cooking classes and live sessions.

And as soon as restrictions started to lift, the Comfort Kitchen team got into the restaurant kitchens of their friends and starting cooking and serving food through pop-ups. We got to engage with the community we had started to build online, but this time in real life. I stayed behind the scenes documenting and creating a presence online and on social media.
